Our Story

The Language Guys was the brainchild of founder Emma Woollard, she has a goal of transforming language education from primary level and beyond.
On the journey to achieving this goal the business has transformed from a part time student enterprise to The Language Guys, a company with a mission to transform UK language education and one with a social conscience. Read on to hear about our journey from the very start.

The business started in 2014, under the name English with Emma, as a project to fund a trip to the Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC) in Italy. Through the initial offering of part-time language classes at the University of Chester, Emma was able to raise the funds required to travel to the GEC; however, she didn’t stop there, upon her return she continued teaching and growing the business. With a growing team and increasing demand, English with Emma became, The Language Guys, and Emma decided the next step in making affordable language lessons available to more people, would be to take things online. Through bringing The Language Guys online, Emma was able to provide even more people with native speaking tutors, whilst ensuring students had the flexibility to learn from almost anywhere, anytime. This enabled The Language Guys to work on our social project providing English language tuition to young entrepreneurs in Mexico. Now we offer a range of English courses at our modern facility in Chester city centre including medical English and IELTS preparation.
Next Emma decided that in order to make language tuition more accessible to all, it needed to be brought out of the classroom. She realised that many people want to learn a language but are put off by formal classroom settings. We started to teach in bars and restaurants in Chester, offering classes such as wine and French or Spanish and tapas. We now offer these classes in Liverpool and Manchester is on the horizon!
This brings the story up to date, having established the private tuition and social elements to the business we are able to focus on our long-term goal of transforming UK language education.
